What It Does
The ++BREADCRUMBS++ widget creates a navigation line for the page. Like a trail of crumbs leading back to the homepage, breadcrumb navigation helps your visitors understand where they are in your site. For example, if an article titled "It's All in the Wrist" were located in the "Bowling" subsection of the "Activities" section, the breadcrumbs would display:
home > activities > bowling > it's all in the wrist
In the example above, the home, sports and bowling links would link respectively to the homepage, the main Activities section page and the Bowling subsection page.

The ++BREADCRUMBS++ widget is an inline element, contained in a <span> tag.

Customizing This Widget
Users with webmaster or administrator accounts may customize this widget in the "Site Navigation" section of the widget editor. To get there, click the "Widget Settings" link in the left-column menu of the Big Medium control panel. At the bottom of the "Site Navigation" panel are two options for breadcrumb format:
- Character to separate breadcrumb links. Select a character to separate the "layers" of your site in the breadcrumbs. The breadcrumb example shown above used the ">" character.
- Include article title in article page breadcrumbs. If this option is checked, the article title will be included in the breadcrumbs. If this option is not checked, only the article's parent sections will appear in the breadcrumbs.
- Make breadcrumbs lower-case. Checking this option forces all breadcrumb text to be all lower-case. Leaving it unchecked displays the section names in the same case as you enter them in the section editor, and the article title in the same case as you enter it in the article editor.
Styles
The ++BREADCRUMBS++ widget is displayed in the "Breadcrumb Text" style, and its links are displayed in the "Breadcrumb Links" style.
