What It Does
The ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget creates a vertical, graphical navigation bar for the subsections of your site. This widget is sensitive to the location of the page, so all of the pages of each main section display that section's subsections in the ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget.
The ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget highlights the subsection in which the user is currently located by using that subsection's vertical rollover graphic. Other subsections in the menu highlight with their rollover graphics when the cursor passes over them.
A subsection is included in the navigation bar only if a vertical navigation graphic has been loaded for the subsection from its section settings page in the section editor.
The Markup Results
The ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget may be generated in one of two forms depending on your "Site Navigation" widget settings (see below).
- No table. The widget is an inline element that is not contained in an HTML tag. Each subsection graphic is enclosed in its own
<a>tag, and these image links are separated by<br>tags. - Table. The widget is a block element contained in a
<table>tag. Each subsection graphic is in its own cell and row of the table.
The rollover effect is executed by an external javascript file.
Templates Using This Widget
This widget can be used in all page templates except the homepage:
- Main section page
- Subsection index page
- Article page
Customizing This Widget
Users with webmaster or administrator accounts can customize this widget in the "Site Navigation" section of the widget editor. To get there, click the "Widget Settings" link in the left-column menu of the Big Medium control panel. The following settings affect the ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget:
- Use tables for vertical image-based subnavigation. Checking this option makes Big Medium use the table format for the
++VSUBNAVIMAGE++widget (see "The Markup Results" above).
The height and width attributes of vertical navigation graphics are determined by the "Image Sizes" settings in the site's widget settings:
- Vertical subnavigation image width. The width of the image in pixels.
- Vertical subnavigation image height. The height of the image in pixels.
In addition, section editor settings determine whether individual subsections are included in the ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget. For more information, check the section status help file.
Styles
The ++VSUBNAVIMAGE++ widget does not use any styles.
